A Selection Of My Favourite Images Of 2018

Over the last year I must have taken over 3000 photo, so as 2018 comes to a close I’ve picked out a selection of my favourites.

Little Owl
Little Owl, taken at The London Wetland Centre falconry event, 15th September 2018.

Kestrel Rainham Marshes Purfleet Essex
This kestrel was just about to swoop on a dormouse for its supper. Taken at RSPB Rainham Marshes, 8th June 2018.

Cormorant Walthamstow Wetlands
On a hot summers day this cormorant had just taken a bath in the cool river and was using the heat of the sun to dry it’s plumage. Taken at Walthamstow Wetlands 6th June 2018.

Smew Duck
The smew duck is an unusual visitor to our shores, and according to the RSPB there are less than 200 wintering smews in the UK. It was a privilege to see this one on a visit to The London Wetland Centre, 26th March 2018.

Robin Walthamstow Wetlands
The Robin is one of my favourite garden birds and has such a beautiful song. I had the opportunity to get up close with this one at Walthamstow Wetlands on 25th February 2018.

Blue Tit
Although the blue tit is be a common garden bird in the UK, this one gave a splash of colour to the winter landscape at Walthamstow Wetlands. Taken on 28th December 2018.

Long Tailed Tit
My nickname for long tailed tits is ‘marshmallow’ as they remind me of the fluffy sweet snack. This one was photographed at Walthamstow Wetlands on 25th February 2018.

Greylag Goose Chick
Spring was late this year and it was nearly the middle of the year before this Greylag goose chick made its way out to forage for food. Taken at Walthamstow Wetlands, 1st May 2018
Canada Goose Chick Golders Hill Park
We are privileged to have the Canada geese return every year to the pond in Golders Hill Park to breed In spring they always produce the next generation that return the following year to repeat the cycle. Here’s one of this year’s offspring taken on 20th May 2018.

Starlings
As Autumn gets in full swing starlings change their plumage into incredible patterns. Taken by the Thames near RSPB Rainham Marshes 8th October 2018.
Mistlethrush
I love nothing better to spend a day in a quiet wood watching the wildlife going about its business. Here a mistlethrush enjoys the spring sunshine in a wood on Hampstead Heath. Taken 7th May 2018.

Redshank
On a lovely spring day I had a great privilege to get up close to a beautiful Redshank at RSPB Rainham Marshes. Taken on 28th March 2018.

Moon
On the way back from a day taking pictures of wildlife occasionally there’s a chance to experience some other spectacular displays of nature. This (almost) full moon was taken over Golders Hill Park, 23rd October 2018.

At the end of a summer’s day, I couldn’t resist this awesome sky over the shooting range at Rainham Marshes. Taken on 9th July 2018.

Sunset over Rainham Marshes
And on the same note, a very unusual sunset. Taken at the end of a late night opening of RSPB Rainham Marshes, 9th July 2018

Sunset Rainham Marshes
One final glorious summer sunset over Rainham Marshes taken on 22nd June 2018. This place really does have some spectacular evenings.
